Changes to the Motability Scheme from 1 July 2026

Did you know the Scheme is changing?

From 1st July 2026, major changes to the Motability Scheme, including VAT/IPT taxes, lower mileage allowances (30k over 3 years), increased excess fees, and new tyre rules, will apply to new leases. TrustFord advises ordering before this date to secure current allowances and benefits. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Key Motability Scheme Changes (From 1 July 2026)

Tax Changes: VAT on Advance Payments and Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) will apply to new leases, significantly increasing costs.
Mileage Allowance: Reduced to 30,000 miles for a 3-year lease and 50,000 miles for 5-year leases.
Excess Mileage: Increased fees for exceeding the allowance.
Tyre Replacement: Updated rules and limits on tyre replacements.
Travel Abroad: An admin fee and advance notice to the RAC will be required for taking cars abroad. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
