What adaptations are available on the Motability Scheme?

There are hundreds of adaptations that can be made to your vehicle on the Motability Scheme, ranging from simple driving controls to person hoists to lift a wheelchair user into one of our standard Ford cars.

All adaptations are designed to help make your driving, or travelling, experience as comfortable as possible and depending on which adaptations you choose they can help you drive, create wheelchair accessible cars, or get in and out of the car.

Access Aids for Motability cars

There are several ways a standard Ford car can be adapted to make it more accessible. These include:

  • An electric person hoist that physically lifts the user into the Motability car
  • Maintained, along with your car, by the Motability Operations Fleet Service team to provide worry-free motoring for the length of your contract
  • A swivel seat that can twist and, in some cases, lift and slope to help people get in and out of their car more easily

Hand controls for Motability cars

These are adaptations for drivers who find breaking or accelerating with standard pedals difficult.

Adaptations can include a push/pull device that allows you to control the speed of your car by pushing or pulling a lever.

If it’s steering that can be a little difficult, then things like a steering wheel ball can be fitted to make things easier, while adaptations are also available to help with things like indicating and indicating less hassle.

Many people with physical disabilities need extra space for equipment such as wheelchairs or scooters.

Additions like roof boxes can be fitted, while larger pieces of equipment may need specialist adaptation in the form of boot hoists that can lift wheelchairs or scooters into the vehicle

What happens when you’ve decided what adaptations you need?

Once you’ve decided on which adaptation you’d like made to your Ford vehicle our TrustFord Motability Specialist will place an order for your vehicle.

You can rest assured that everything will be taken care of for you by our specialist team and your adaptations will be;

Produced and fitted by Motability accredited manufacturers and installers who will contact your dealer to ensure they are fitted before delivery.

Maintained, along with your car, by the TrustFord Motability Operations Fleet Service team to provide worry-free motoring for the length of your contract.

In most cases your Ford Motability Dealer will be able to order your vehicle and adaptation at the same time, while agreeing with the installer when and where the adaptation is to be fitted.
